National Association of County and City Health Officials Elects Dr. Swannie Jett to Board of Directors

SANFORD – The National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) has elected Dr. Swannie Jett, health officer for the Florida Department of Health in Seminole County (DOH-Seminole) to its 2015-2016 Board of Directors as the NACCHO President. NACCHO is governed by a 27-member board that comprises local and tribal health officials who are elected by their peers. The Board also includes ex-officio members who represent the National Association of Counties and the U.S. Conference of Mayors. Dr. Jett begins his term on July 1, 2015.

As the governing body, the Board of Directors establishes NACCHO’s strategic direction and initiatives, sets the annual legislative agenda, approves official statements of policy, ensures that annual goals are met, and provides financial oversight. The Board is NACCHO’s public face, and represents members in matters of policy, public health practice and collaboration with health partners in the public and private sectors.

Dr. Jett is Health Officer for 450,000 residents in Seminole County Florida, where he leads community initiatives to strengthen the infrastructure of the Florida Department of Health in Seminole County by creating partnerships to improve population health outcomes, and workforce competence and funding streams. Dr. Jett is a Major in the Air Force National Guard and in 2011 completed the National Public Health Leadership Institute. He is passionate about addressing issues of environmental justice, health equity, and air pollution. After graduating from Tennessee State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Statistics, as well as an MS in Bio-Systems Engineering from the University of Tennessee, Dr. Jett received a doctorate in public health from the University of Kentucky.

“As public health changes to a population health model, serving as President of NACCHO not only increases awareness of Seminole County on a national level, but it enhances the importance and perception of what public health does for the local community,” said Dr. Swannie Jett, health officer.

In addition to electing Dr. Swannie Jett to the board, NACCHO has also announced new officers, at-large and regional members. A complete list of the Board of Directors can be found on their website.
