Sanford, Fla. – On Saturday, July 23, Seminole County Government’s Department of Community Services in collaboration with the Florida Department of Health in Seminole County (DOH-Seminole) hosted its 3rd Annual Back to School Bash. The free event took place at DOH-Seminole’s Sanford Health Office, located on 400 West Airport Boulevard.

A total of 676 backpacks were prepared for students attending the 3rd Annual Back to School Bash. Out of the 676 backpacks, 550 students received backpacks filled with school supplies at the event and 126 were later distributed by community partners. Several elected officials from Seminole County Government attended such as Commissioner Brenda Carey and Commissioner Bob Dallari.

“The annual Back to School Bash is a family-oriented event that celebrates the beginning of the new school year,” said Valmarie Turner, Director of Seminole County Government’s Department of Community Services. “This year, our focus was to put kids first and gear all services provided to help children and their parents prepare for the new school year.”

Approximately 32 community organizations and district departments provided information and activities to students for a safe and successful school year. Some of the community partners were Hollywood Institute of Beauty Careers, Harvest Time International and Lynx.

DOH-Seminole also offered a series of health services such as dental exams, immunizations, and physicals to more than 50 students.

“What makes this event successful is the support we receive from all of the community agencies,” said Dr. Swannie Jett, Health Officer for DOH-Seminole. “Our sponsors, volunteers, and the general public contribute to making the annual Back to School Bash a great success."
