FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH IN SEMINOLE COUNTY CELEBRATES NATIONAL PUBLIC HEALTH WEEK

Sanford, FL - This week, April 3-9, 2023, the Florida Department of Health in Seminole County (DOH-Seminole) acknowledges and celebrates National Public Health Week (NPHW). NPHW presents an opportunity for communities to reflect on the contributions of public health and highlight issues that are important to improving our health. This year’s NPHW theme is Centering and Celebrating Cultures in Health.
Among the week’s activities, DOH-Seminole is hosting a Public Health Celebration on Thursday, April 6, 2023, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. EST, at:
Attendees can enjoy a kid’s zone, food trucks, music, mini ponies, prizes, dance performances and free health screenings. For more information call 407-665-3391.
“The health and wellbeing of residents and visitors is impacted by their culture in addition to the communities they build together,” said Donna Walsh, Health Officer for the Florida Department of Health in Seminole County. “National Public Health Week is an opportunity to learn how public health, along with different cultures, help shape the health of communities.
Clinical services, outreach, education, disease prevention and many other essential services protect communities and ensure a healthy future in Seminole County.”
From better maternal and child health to improvements in disease control, and addressing environmental concerns and emergency preparedness, public health professionals across Seminole County make it their life’s work to help people and communities stay healthy.
Below are some activities DOH-Seminole is hosting in celebration of NPHW:
- Monday, April 3, 2023: Unveiling of Josh’s Benches for Awareness at DOH-Seminole at 10:00 a.m. EST to raise awareness about suicide prevention. Two benches were donated by the Jeno and Lois Paulucci Family Foundation to be visible for those who may be struggling or in crisis.
- Tuesday, April 4, 2023: Free confidential STD testing afterhours from 5:00 m. – 7:00p.m. EST, and every Tuesday and Thursday in April from 8:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., and 1:30 p.m.– 3:30 p.m. EST, at DOH-Seminole. For more information call 407-665-3072.
- Thursday, April 6, 2023: The community is invited to the Public Health Celebration from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. EST at DOH-Seminole. A kid’s zone, food trucks, music, mini ponies, prizes, dancing and health resources will be available.
