Press Conference Held Today for Mobile Health Unit Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Sanford, Fla. The Florida Department of Health in Seminole County (DOH-Seminole) hosted a Mobile Health Unit Ribbon Cutting Ceremony today from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 400 West Airport Boulevard, Sanford, Florida. Food and beverages were sponsored by the Neighborhood Walmart in Lake Mary and Wawa Convenience Store #5158 in Sanford.

Several dignitaries from Seminole County Government attended such as Chairman John Horan, Commissioner Carlton Henley, Commissioner Brenda Carey, and Commissioner Bob Dallari. Norton Bonaparte, City of Sanford Manager, was also in attendance.

The mobile health unit is operated by DOH-Seminole, and funded by Seminole County Government, Orlando Health - South Seminole Hospital, True Health, WIC, and Healthy Start Coalition of Seminole County. During today’s ceremony, each sponsor was recognized for their generous contributions.

DOH-Seminole’s mobile health unit provides health services to homeless, uninsured, and underinsured populations. Clients can obtain the following health services:  

  • Family Planning – Birth Control and Rechecks, Annual Physical, Pregnancy Testing, Vasectomy Referrals and Free Condoms.
  • Immunizations – Child and Adult, Flu and Pneumonia.
  • Physicals - School and College Entry.
  • Screenings – Diabetes, Hypertension, Cholesterol, Heart Disease, Body Mass Index (BMI), and Blood Pressure.
  • STD, HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis – Testing, Screening, and Education.
  • Referrals – Follow-up Care, Smoking Cessation and more.

The mobile health unit is located at various homeless population sites, as well as other areas that have challenges with access to care. Locations include Remington Inn & Suites (Altamonte Springs) and Rescue Outreach Mission (Sanford).

DOH-Seminole’s mobile health unit is staffed by an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) and Health Support Worker. The mobile health unit accepts Medicaid HMOs, offers insurance billing and payment options including VISA and MasterCard.
