Sanford, Fla. – On July 23, Seminole County Government’s Department of Community Services in collaboration with the Florida Department of Health in Seminole County (DOH-Seminole) will host its annual Back-to-School Bash from 8 a.m. to noon. The free event will take place at DOH-Seminole’s Sanford Health Office, located on 400 West Airport Boulevard. Almost 20 community organizations and district departments will provide information and activities to students for a safe and successful school year.

“Over the last few years this event has helped hundreds of children start their school year off with a successful foot forward,” said Valmarie Turner, Director of Seminole County Government’s Department of Community Service. “Attendees can expect to receive free haircuts, backpacks, school supplies, lunch and a variety of health services.”

The 3rd Annual Back-to-School Bash is a family-oriented event that celebrates the beginning of the new school season. This event will help children and their parents get into the groove of the new school year and inspire them to stay physically fit and intellectually active all year long.

“School supplies and backpacks will be given to hundreds of school-age children, while a community health fair will provide a variety of health screenings,” said Dr. Swannie Jett, Health Officer for DOH-Seminole. “The health fair will include physicals, dental screenings, and immunizations.”

Mandatory registration is required to receive backpacks and school supplies. Registration is open from June 27 to July 12, 2016 at the Community Assistance Office, located on 534 West Lake Mary Boulevard, Sanford. Parents must bring valid identification, birth certificates for child(ren), and proof that the child(ren) is enrolled in Seminole County Public Schools.
