DOH-Seminole Celebrates Public Health Week Live, Work, Move Seminole 5K & Kid’s Dash

SANFORD, Fla. – The Florida Department of Health in Seminole County in partnership with No Limit Health and Education, Inc. celebrates National Public Health Week and invites Seminole County and central Florida residents and visitors to join the celebration during the 3rd Annual Live, Work, Move Seminole 5K & Kid’s Dash taking place on Sunday, April 9, 2017 starting at 7:30 a.m. at the Oviedo on the Park-Center Lake Park located at 299 Center Lake Lane in Oviedo.

“Making healthy choices can be fun and rewarding, and this health and fitness event is a great opportunity for individuals of all ages to be active to help reduce and prevent chronic diseases, and join others who make their health a priority as well,” said Donna Walsh, health officer of the Florida Department of Health in Seminole County.

All finishers will receive a custom finisher’s medal, t-shirt, and a bag with promotional items and educational materials to stay healthy. Packet pick-up starts at 6:30 a.m. and the race state at 7:30 p.m. There will also be a free Kid’s Dash for children ages 5-11 years old at 8:30 a.m. The Kid’s Dash sets the stage for Every Kid’s Healthy Week which is also during the month of April. An award ceremony will take place after the race. During the presentation of awards, the City of Oviedo and the City of Sanford will be recognized as Healthy Weight Community Champions. These municipalities have implemented “best practices” to promote wellness, physical activity and improve nutrition in their jurisdiction.

"We look forward to recognizing our community champions on a day when the community comes together to celebrate a commitment to better health. This event and the community champions encourage families and employers to promote a culture of wellness,” said Venise White,Community Programs Manager for the health department in Seminole County.
