Sanford, Fla. - In observance of Men's Health Month, the Seminole County Health Department in collaboration with AventHealth-Altamonte Springs and community partners will host the 5^th annual Men's Health Challenge on Saturday, June 15^th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at AdventHealth-Altamonte Springs-Chatlos Room, located at 601 East Altamonte Drive, Altamonte Springs, Fl 32701.

Every Kid Needs a Champion, Be a Health Superhero! is the theme of this year's Men's Health Challenge and has the goal to increase awareness in taking care of one's physical and mental health needs. Families play a key role in men's lives and they are also invited to join this free event and help the men in their lives stay healthy.

"Men are faced with a variety of health risks and disparities. It is important to start at an early age to encourage boys to make their health a priority. Men can be mentors and an example to the younger generations about living a healthy lifestyle to prevent diseases. The Men's Health Challenge gathers many experts and resources in one central location to facilitate the process of learning and finding providers and organizations who can help men and boys achieve better health," said Donna Walsh, health officer for the Florida Department of Health in Seminole County.

"AdventHealth is committed to partnering with the community to support men in their journey to healthy living. By empowering our grandfathers, fathers, and sons to start living healthier lives today, we are leading to a stronger community as a whole tomorrow. AdventHealth is excited to bring knowledge and awareness by influential leaders from across Seminole county to this amazing interactive event, including physicians, sheriff's department, nurses, and many others," said Nicole Ayoub, director of nursing, AdventHealth, Altamonte Springs campus a part of AdventHealth Orlando.

Most men who experience physical, mental, and emotional challenges do not seek professional help and resources. Therefore, men die at higher rates than women from the top 10 causes of death. Community resources and education are key for preventing illness, injury and deaths in the male population. During the event, attendees will have the opportunity to gain educational resources and information from vendors, gain knowledge and better understanding of health topics from guest speakers, complete health risk screenings, participate in activities, win prizes and enjoy free food.

"This is our fifth year hosting the event highlighting the importance of Men's Health. We encourage families to come out and celebrate the men in their lives during Father's Day weekend. We honor the role of men in our community as powerful and influential. Men are invited to wear their favorite superhero shirt to the event to symbolize strength and commitment to lead their families to stronger healthier lifestyles," said Venise White, Community Programs Manager for the Office of Health Promotion and Education at the Florida Department of Health in Seminole County.
