DOH-Seminole Hosts Events During Mobility Week

Sanford, Fla - In recognition of Mobility Week from October 25th through November 1st, the Florida Department of Health in Seminole County (DOH-Seminole) is promoting safety, multimodal transportation and staying active by hosting two events in partnership with Florida Department of Transportation, American Association of Retired Persons, ReThink Your Commute and PedBike Resource Center.

DOH-Seminole invites the community to a Bike to Work Day ride on Friday, October 25th. In partnership with Rethink Your Commute, participants will meet at the Sanford Sunrail Station located at 2720 W. State Road 46 Sanford, FL 32771 and bike to the health department located at 400 W. Airport Blvd. Sanford, FL 32773. Riders will meet at 6:30 am, the ride will start at 7:00 am and arrival time is 8:00 am. On Saturday, October 26th from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm, the Age-Friendly Safe Mobility for Life Week Free Bicycle Helmets and Fitting Event will take place at Black Hammock Trailhead located at 3276 Howard Avenue, Winter Springs, 32708. Stop by to receive a free bicycle helmet and fitting by a certified bike helmet technician.

"Mobility Week activities provide an opportunity to try new ways of transportation while staying safe and active for better health. Those who practice regular physical activity generally live longer and are at less risk for serious health problems like heart disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and some cancers," said Donna Walsh, health officer for the Florida Department of Health in Seminole County.
