The Florida Department of Health in Seminole County is held accountable to the standards set forth by the Governor and State Surgeon General as well as taxpayers of the State of Florida. In order to perform at our highest standard, we have various methods of transparency:
Annual Health Report
Each year, the Florida Department of Health in Seminole County publishes the Annual Health Report which includes health statistics and recap of the public health services we provided to the community of Seminole County.

Strategic Plan
Through data collection, analysis, stakeholder participation and leadership guidance the 2023-2026 DOH-Seminole Strategic plan (PDF 2.2 MB) was developed. This internal document outlines the four areas of focused priorities for our Health Department over the next three years.

Public Health Accreditation
The Florida Department of Health is accredited through the Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB). Florida, as an integrated public health agency, has received accreditation for the state office and all 67 county health departments.
What is Public Health Department Accreditation?
- The measurement of health department performance against a set of nationally recognized, practice-focused and evidenced-based standards.
- The issuance of recognition of achievement of accreditation within a specified time frame by a nationally recognized entity.
- The continual development, revision, and distribution of public health standards.

Community Health Assessment
The 2022 Community Health Needs Assessment (29.8MB) is a community-driven strategic planning process for improving the health of the community. It is the foundation for the Community Health Improvement Plan which is the strategic initiatives and goals of the assessment.
Community Health Improvement Plan
The State's public health system is an integral part of Florida's vitality. The Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) (PDF 2.2 MB) is one way the community is working to identify and address the health needs here in Seminole County. The Healthy Seminole Collaboration is a group consisting of various community partners who is the driving force for the CHIP and meets at least quarterly to evaluate and work on the goals and strategies identified in the document. The Florida Department of Health in Seminole County is one of the partners in the Healthy Seminole Collaborative.
County Health Rankings
The County Health Rankings are a yearly rank of the healthiest states and counties in the nations. The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation leads the rankings each year based on a population health model which looks at a county’s physical environment, social and economic factors, clinical care and health behaviors.
In 2023, Seminole County Florida was ranked #3 of 67 ranked counties in Florida. In 2022, the U.S. News and World Report and CVS Health released their fifth annual Healthiest Communities rankings. Only two counties in Florida made the list of the top 500 Healthiest Communities nationwide. St. Johns County, ranked 185 and Seminole County 441. See Seminole County report.
